Short answer

Private label polo shirts from Bangladesh are made to your specification and finished with your own woven labels, hang tags and packing. Start with a brand pack and tech pack, check your mark in the registers of the markets where you will sell, and approve labels and a pre-production sample in writing. Each factory sets its own price and minimum per style and color.

Key takeaways

  • Private label adds a brand pack to the garment order: woven labels, size and care labels, hang tags, printed packing and logo work, each approved separately.

  • The binding minimum is per style and per color for the garment, plus separate runs for woven labels, hang tags and printed cartons.

  • Check your name and logo in the trademark registers of the markets where you will sell before any label or tag is printed.

  • For the European Union, a distributor who sells under its own trademark carries the manufacturer's labelling duties for fibre composition.

  • Exportain verification is a document and photo review, not a factory inspection, and a badge is not a guarantee.

A private label polo shirt order asks a factory in Bangladesh to make a shirt to your specification and finish it as your brand: your woven label in the neck, your hang tag, your logo work and your packing. The brand work sits on top, with its own approvals, minimums and risks.

The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), established in 1996, is the apex trade body for the knitwear sector and currently represents approximately 2,540 knitwear member factories.1 Knitwear exports reached $5.963 billion in July to September 2026, up 6.88 percent year on year, within ready-made garment exports of $10.578 billion, according to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).2 That scale gives a brand owner several factories able to quote.

What a private label polo shirt order includes

What should I know first about private label?

You order two things at once. The first is the garment: fabric, collar and cuffs, placket and buttons, sizes and colors. The second is the brand pack: the main woven label, size labels, care and fibre labels, hang tags, logo embroidery or print, polybag and carton printing. Each item is approved separately, so put both halves in one tech pack and price them on separate lines.

Classification comes first. In the Harmonized System, heading 6105 covers men's or boys' shirts, knitted or crocheted.3 The subheadings split by fiber: 610510 for cotton, 610520 for man-made fibers, and 610590 for other textile materials.3 Classification turns on the garment as made, so confirm the full national code for your style in your destination tariff. See the HS code for polo shirts guide.

Your label carries legal wording, not only your brand. If you sell into the European Union, Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 states that a textile product shall be labelled or marked with the name and percentage by weight of all constituent fibres in descending order.4 The labelling must be durable, easily legible, visible and accessible and, for a label, securely attached.4 The same regulation treats a distributor who places a product on the market under his own name or trademark as a manufacturer for the purposes of the regulation.4 A brand owner selling under its own trademark therefore carries the duty to supply the label and keep its information accurate.

Check the mark before anything is printed. At the national and regional level, trademark protection can be obtained through registration with the national or regional trademark office.5 WIPO's Global Brand Database provides access to over 28 million records from multiple international and national sources, including marks registered through WIPO's Madrid System.5 Search your name and logo there and in the registers of each market where you will sell, for clothing, before you approve labels, tags or carton print. If a similar mark for clothing appears, pause the print runs and take advice in that market first.

Why this matters for buyers and sellers

For the brand owner, private label stock is harder to correct than unbranded stock. A shirt with the wrong fibre wording, a woven label in the wrong fold or a logo off its agreed position cannot be fixed with a sticker. For the factory, your labels, tags and printed cartons cannot be sold to another buyer, so minimums and approval steps protect that spend.

Two controls do most of the protective work. The first is an inspection plan agreed before production. ISO 2859-1 defines a system of acceptance sampling plans for inspection by attributes, indexed by acceptance quality limit (AQL) for lot-by-lot inspection.6 AQL is the maximum average percentage of defective items considered acceptable during random sampling, and it determines sample sizes and acceptance or rejection thresholds.6 Add label position, wording, hang tag and carton marks to the inspection points. The second control is one delivery term for every quotation: the Incoterms 2020 rules set out 11 rules with a clear allocation of cost, risk and obligations.7

Step-by-step: how it works

Work through the steps in order, and do not release bulk production until both halves are approved on the same sample.

  1. Build the brand pack and check the mark. List every branded item: main label with fold and placement, size labels, care and fibre label wording, hang tag, logo artwork, polybag and carton print. Search the name and logo in the destination registers before any item goes to print.5

  2. Send one tech pack to every candidate. State fabric composition and knit type, fabric weight, collar and cuff construction, placket and buttons, a size chart, the brand pack, the quantity split per color and size, and packing. Ask for an itemized quotation with each line priced apart.

  3. Check the company behind the quotation. Record whether the company will cut and sew in its own factory or place the order with a factory it selects. Ask to see the trade licence and, for an exporter, the Export Registration Certificate (ERC), and check the name against the quotation.

  4. Approve labels and samples in writing. Approve the woven label sample, the hang tag proof and the logo strike-off first, then a pre-production sample in your actual fabric, color, collar, placket, logo and labels. Measure and wash it, check the label wording, then approve in writing, or list corrections in writing.

  5. Agree the inspection plan before production. Write the inspection level and AQL values into the purchase order, following the sampling system in ISO 2859-1,6 and name who inspects. Use the polo shirts quality control checklist for garment points, and add the brand pack points.

  6. Compare quotations on one Incoterm and confirm documents. Ask every candidate to quote on the same Incoterm and named place, because the Incoterms 2020 rules allocate cost, risk and obligations for each rule.7 Agree the export set and hold shipment until the export filing is approved.

What drives private label price, MOQ and lead time

There is no typical private label price, MOQ or lead time a guide can state as fact, because each factory sets all three for your specification. The garment minimum and the brand pack minimums are separate floors.

  • Fabric: composition, knit type and weight, and whether it is stocked or dyed for your order. A dyed-to-order color usually carries a higher minimum.

  • Collar, placket and buttons: the collar and cuff set, placket construction and button type add operations a plain T-shirt does not have, and each collar color and size is its own set.

  • Logo work: method, stitch count or number of colors, size and placement decide set-up work spread across the run.

  • Woven labels and hang tags: each is produced in its own run, set by label size, fold and colors, or by tag size and print sides. A short garment run can fall below the label run even when it clears the garment minimum.

  • Quantity split: the total matters less than the split per color and size. The binding garment MOQ is usually per color or per style. The polo shirts MOQ guide works through those minimums.

Costs, timelines and documents

What are the typical costs and timelines?

There are no typical figures a buyer can rely on. Ask for an itemized quotation so the garment price, logo set-up, label and tag runs, and packing sit on separate lines, all on one delivery term.7 Costs rise with each branded item and color, because set-up and print runs spread over fewer pieces per color. Timelines follow the longest approval chain: mark check, artwork, label sample, pre-production sample, then bulk.

Which documents are needed?

For export clearance in Bangladesh, goods may not be loaded unless an export declaration, the Bill of Export or Shipping Bill, is submitted to Customs and approved.8 Enclosed documents include the export contract or purchase order where there is no export letter of credit, the commercial invoice, the packing list, the EXP form certified by an authorized dealer, and a certificate of origin issued by the EPB or a Chamber of Commerce and Industry.8

Bangladesh-specific rules and tips

Confirm association claims at the source. If a supplier claims BKMEA membership, confirm it with the association itself. BKMEA represents the knitwear sector and its member factories,1 so confirmed membership signals an active knitwear business, not capacity for your order.

Keep one legal name across every paper. The export declaration names the exporter and the foreign buyer,8 so one legal name should run across the trade licence, quotation, proforma invoice and payment account. If names differ, get the reason in writing before any payment, and pay only the named company account.

Freeze artwork before the label order. Woven labels and printed cartons are the hardest items to change once produced. Record the artwork file name and version on the purchase order, state in writing that nothing may be printed from an earlier version, and state whether leftover labels, tags and cartons are held for a repeat order, returned, or destroyed.

Mistakes and red flags

What are the most common mistakes?

Printing before the mark check. Labels printed under a name that conflicts with an earlier clothing mark in your market turn finished stock into a problem. Search first, print second.5

Sending artwork without a brand pack. A logo file alone does not state label size, fold, placement, tag board or carton marks. Each unstated item is decided by someone else.

Approving the garment but not the labels. A sample approval that covers fit and color but not label wording, logo position and tag attachment leaves the brand half of the order unapproved.

Buying on a headline price. A low unit price may exclude logo set-up, label runs or printed packing, or rest on a lighter fabric or a different delivery term. Compare only itemized quotations on the same tech pack, brand pack and Incoterm.7

Treating a profile or a badge as verification. A profile is a starting point for enquiries. It does not test whether a factory can make your shirt, and a badge is not a guarantee of capacity, quality or delivery.9

How Exportain helps

On Exportain, you can browse suppliers in the knitwear categories and post a request for quotation (RFQ) with your tech pack and brand pack summary, quantity split, destination and delivery term, so suppliers quote on the same specification. Post a free RFQ on the RFQ board and compare the itemized replies line by line. When you accept a quotation, Exportain creates one order and issues one proforma invoice from the accepted terms.9

Read the badges for what they record. Exportain Verified means Exportain has checked identity, phone, email and business registration, and Export Verified means it has checked the Export Registration Certificate (ERC).9 Factory Verified means Exportain has reviewed photos of the manufacturer factory, while Trading Company Verified means it has reviewed photos of the trading company office or warehouse.9 Every verification submission is reviewed by Exportain staff before a badge is approved.10 Verification is free, and membership plans never grant a trust badge.10 It is a document and photo review, not a factory inspection,9 10 so approvals and bulk inspection stay with you. FAQs

What should I know first about private label?

Know that you are ordering a garment and a brand pack together. Men's knitted polo shirts sit under HS heading 6105, split by fiber into 610510 for cotton and 610520 for man-made fibers.3 For the European Union, the label must state the name and percentage by weight of all constituent fibres in descending order,4 and a seller placing goods on the market under its own trademark carries the manufacturer's labeling duties.4 Check the mark first.5

What are the typical costs and timelines?

There are no typical figures a buyer can rely on, because each factory sets its own figures for your specification and brand pack. Fabric, collar and placket construction, logo set-up, label and tag runs, printed packing, the quantity split and the delivery term drive the price,7 and the approval chain and line capacity drive the timeline.

Which documents are needed?

The order documents are the tech pack with the brand pack, the itemized quotation and the purchase order. The export set is the Bill of Export, the commercial invoice, the packing list, the EXP form certified by an authorized dealer, and a certificate of origin issued by the EPB or a Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the export contract or purchase order enclosed where there is no export letter of credit.8

What are the most common mistakes?

The most common mistakes are printing labels before the mark check,5 approving the garment sample but not the label sample, and buying on a headline price that excludes brand pack lines or rests on a different term.7 A badge is not a guarantee of capacity, quality or delivery.9
