Short answer

To find cotton t-shirts exporters in Bangladesh you can rely on, run one checklist on every candidate before you pay. Confirm identity and export registration documents, verify any BKMEA or BGMEA membership claim at the source, separate the factory from the trading company, approve a sample in writing, compare itemized quotations, and inspect the bulk and export filing before shipment.

Key takeaways

  • Cotton T-shirts are knitwear: BKMEA is the knitwear association, and BGMEA covers knitwear alongside woven garments and sweaters.

  • Run the same eight checks on every exporter: documents, export registration, membership at the source, producer type, profile, sample, quotation and shipment.

  • Confirm any BKMEA or BGMEA membership claim with the association, and check that licence, ERC and payment account names agree.

  • Exportain verification is a document and photo review, not a factory inspection, and a badge is not a guarantee of capacity, quality or delivery.

  • MOQ and price are set by each exporter for your specification, so compare itemized quotations on the same specification and delivery term.

Buyers searching for cotton t-shirts exporters in Bangladesh face a long list of names and few facts they can check themselves. Cotton T-shirts are knitwear. The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), established in 1996, is the apex trade body for the knitwear sector and represents approximately 2,540 knitwear member factories.1 This checklist turns that list into an order you can test before any money moves.

Why this checklist matters

Ready-made garment exports reached $10,578.56 million in July to September of fiscal year 2026-27, up 6.10 percent year on year, and knitwear exports rose 6.88 percent to $5,963.76 million in the same period, according to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data.2 The European Union took $4,904.02 million of that apparel, the largest destination bloc in the quarter.2

Scale does not tell you whether one exporter can make your T-shirt and ship it under its own export registration. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), started in 1983, covers the woven garments, knitwear and sweater sub-sectors.3 Around 40 percent of BGMEA member factories are knitwear and sweater manufacturers.3 A name in either association base is a lead. The checklist is how you test it.

As a least developed country, Bangladesh benefits from the European Union Everything But Arms (EBA) arrangement, which grants duty-free, quota-free access for all exports except arms and ammunition.4 Bangladesh is the largest beneficiary under EBA, with 19 billion euro in exports benefiting from these preferences in 2024 at a 96 percent utilisation rate.4 Preference depends on origin paperwork, so the final document check is part of the buying decision.

Before you start

Write one specification and send it unchanged to every candidate: fabric composition and weight, construction, sizes and ratios, colors, print or embroidery method and placement, neck and hem finish, labeling, packing, quantity per color and size, destination, and delivery term. Quotations against different specifications cannot be compared.

Record the classification in the same file. Heading 6109 covers T-shirts, singlets and other vests, knitted or crocheted, and subheading 610910 covers the same garments of cotton, knitted or crocheted.5 Confirm the full national code in your destination tariff before you calculate duty, and read the HS code for cotton t-shirts guide for the detail. Keep one evidence file per exporter: specification, check documents, sample approval and accepted quotation. If a fact is not in the file, treat it as unchecked.

The full checklist

Work through the eight checks in order. A low quotation from a company whose documents do not agree is not a saving, and a deposit paid before the identity checks close is the hardest loss to recover.

Exporter checklist flow, from registration documents to inspection and the export filing.Exportain
  1. Identity and business registration. Ask for the trade licence and, where provided, tax identification and incorporation documents. Names must agree across the licence, quotation, invoice and payment account. On Exportain, the business registration check reviews the trade licence and, where provided, TIN and incorporation documents, and the identity check covers a government ID and a live selfie of the account holder.6

  2. Export registration. An exporter shipping in its own name holds an Export Registration Certificate (ERC). Note its number, expiry and holder, and match the holder to check 1. On Exportain, the Export Verified badge means the team has checked the seller Export Registration Certificate.6 If goods ship through another company, get that arrangement in writing first.

  3. Association membership, confirmed at the source. If an exporter claims BKMEA or BGMEA membership, confirm it with the association instead of accepting a logo on a website. BKMEA represents the knitwear sector that produces cotton T-shirts.1 BGMEA covers woven garments, knitwear and sweaters.3 Membership shows an active garment business. It does not show the company can produce your order.

  4. Factory or trading company, stated plainly. Ask who will cut and sew the order and where. On Exportain, Factory Verified means photos of the manufacturer factory were reviewed, while Trading Company Verified means photos of the trading company office or warehouse were reviewed.6 Record the answer in writing. If the producer changes, run the document checks again.

  5. Location, products and profile record. Each Exportain profile shows the supplier verification level, location, main products and declared certifications.7 Check that the main products include knit cotton T-shirts, the profile location matches the document address, and any named certification can be shown in full.

  6. A sample approved in writing. Order a pre-production sample to your specification, in your fabric, with your print, labels and packing. Check measurements, fabric weight, stitching, print position and color, and record the approval or corrections in writing. The approved sample is the standard for check 8. The cotton t-shirts quality control checklist lists the product points to examine.

  7. A quotation you can compare. Compare quotations only on the same specification and delivery term. Every Exportain quotation is versioned and records unit price, minimum order quantity (MOQ), lead time, Incoterm, payment terms and validity.7 Ask each exporter for its own MOQ on your specification and an itemized price: fabric, quantity per color and size, print set-up, finishing and packing each move the total. The MOQ explained guide covers how minimums are set.

  8. Inspection and export documents before shipment. ISO 2859-1 specifies an acceptance sampling system for inspection by attributes, indexed by the acceptance quality limit (AQL), for lot-by-lot inspection.8 The AQL is the quality level that is the worst tolerable process average when a continuing series of lots is submitted for acceptance sampling.8 Inspect the bulk against the approved sample, then check the filing. For export clearance in Bangladesh, the Bill of Export is filed with the commercial invoice, the packing list, the EXP form certified by an authorized dealer, and a certificate of origin issued by the EPB or a Chamber of Commerce and Industry.9 Description, quantity and value must match your purchase order. The pre-shipment inspection guide covers appointing an inspector.

Common failures and how to fix them

Paying before the names agree. The licence name, ERC holder and payment account name point to different companies, and the deposit has gone. Fix: hold payment until checks 1 and 2 close in writing.

Comparing prices from different specifications. One quotation uses a lighter fabric and leaves out print set-up, so it reads as cheaper. Fix: re-quote every candidate on the identical specification and delivery term, with the price itemized as in check 7.

Reading a badge as a guarantee. A badge records which documents and photos were reviewed. Verification is a document review, not a factory inspection, and not a check against any government database.6 A badge is also not a guarantee of production capacity, product quality or delivery.6 Fix: keep checks 3, 6 and 8 as your own work.

Skipping the sample to save time. The fabric, measurement or print error that a sample would have shown is found instead at bulk inspection, when correction costs the shipment. Fix: no bulk order without a written sample approval tied to the specification.

Treating preference as automatic. EBA duty-free entry does not follow automatically from shipping from Bangladesh: the EU records a 96 percent utilisation rate for Bangladesh in 2024, not 100 percent.4 Fix: confirm the origin documents in check 8 before the goods leave.

How Exportain helps

You can search the catalogue by keyword and category, filter to suppliers holding the Exportain Verified badge, and sort by MOQ or lead time.7 You can post a request for quotation stating quantity and unit, target price, destination, Incoterm, required certifications and deadline, and suppliers in that category can view it and quote.7 After you accept a quotation, settle payment on the accepted terms and agree inspection and shipment conditions in writing first.7

Verification is free, Exportain staff review every submission, and membership plans never grant a trust badge.6 Exportain is not a party to your goods contract, and its checks do not replace association confirmation, a sample approval or a pre-shipment inspection. The guide to how supplier verification works on Exportain explains each badge and its limits.

FAQs

When should this checklist be used?

Use it before a first order with any exporter, and again when the producing factory, legal name or payment account changes. Run document checks at longlist stage, the capability check at sample stage, and check 8 before every shipment.

Who should complete it?

The buyer completes it. The person who signs the purchase order should own the evidence file. Associations confirm membership, Exportain staff review the document and photo checks their badges record, and an inspector reports on the goods examined.1 3 6 None of those parties places your order, so none can complete the checklist for you.

What are the most common failures?

Payment sent before the licence, ERC and account names agree, prices compared across different specifications, a badge read as a guarantee, the sample skipped, and origin paperwork assumed rather than checked. Each failure is a skipped check. Return to it, close it in writing, and only then move the order forward.

Can a third party do it?

A third party can do parts of it. An inspector you appoint can inspect the bulk against your approved sample under a sampling plan agreed in advance, such as the AQL-indexed lot-by-lot system in ISO 2859-1.8 A customs broker can confirm your destination code and duty treatment. The document checks, sample approval and choice of exporter stay with the buyer who signs the order.
