Short answer

There is no single typical MOQ for switches and sockets from Bangladesh. Each supplier sets its minimum per gang configuration, per color and per finish for your specification, driven by mold runs, plate color runs, mechanism and parts lots, tooling, and carton print runs. Ask for the minimum per gang, color and finish in writing, then negotiate the structure: fewer colors, a shared plate family, stocked parts, and tooling priced apart from the unit price.

Key takeaways

  • There is no single typical MOQ for switches and sockets from Bangladesh, because each supplier sets its minimum per gang configuration, per color and per finish for your specification.

  • Mold runs, plate color runs, mechanism and parts lots, tooling, and carton and label print runs are the drivers that set the floor.

  • Ask for the MOQ per gang, per color and per finish in writing, with tooling and test minimums itemized apart from the unit price.

  • Negotiate the structure first: fewer colors and finishes, one plate family shared across gang configurations, stocked parts, and tooling paid as a separate line.

  • Exportain verification is a document and photo review, not a factory inspection, and a badge is not a guarantee.

Ask several suppliers for the switches and sockets MOQ in Bangladesh for the same wall plate and you will get different answers. There is no single typical MOQ, because each supplier sets its minimum for your specification, usually per gang, per color and per finish rather than for the order as a whole. A gang is one switch or socket position on a plate. The minimum is set by work that cannot be split: mold runs, color runs, contact lots, and carton print runs.

What sets the switches and sockets MOQ in Bangladesh

What should I know first about switches and sockets?

The binding minimum is almost never the headline total. A quotation carries separate minimums underneath it, and the one you miss decides whether the order can run. Ask for every minimum in writing, line by line, before you compare prices.

Per gang and per plate. One-gang, two-gang, three-gang and four-gang plates use different plates and frames. A supplier therefore states a minimum per gang configuration, and a large total spread across many configurations can still fall below the minimum for one.

Per color and per finish. Plates are molded and finished in color runs, so white, ivory, black, silver and wood-effect finishes are separate runs. A color not in regular production carries its own run minimum, even when the mechanism inside is identical.

Mechanisms, contacts and terminals. Mechanisms, contacts, terminals and shutter parts are made or bought in lots, and a rating change, such as a USB socket, can change the parts set. Ask whether the mechanism minimum sits inside the plate minimum or apart from it.

Molds and tooling. A new plate shape, gang layout, rocker profile or molded logo needs tooling, and tooling cost is fixed whether the run is short or long. Suppliers recover it through the minimum, a separate tooling charge, or both.

Cartons, labels and inserts. Printed cartons, inner boxes, labels and inserts are ordered in their own print runs, each with its own minimum. A private-label order can meet the plate minimum and still fall below the carton print run.

Testing batches. A test report covers a defined model and rating, not every variant you might add later. A variant outside the tested model may need its own test batch. Ask which models and ratings the report covers before you add variants.

The standards set the boundaries for the specification. IEC 60669-1 applies to manually operated general purpose switches for alternating current only, with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 63 A.1 IEC 60884-1 applies to plugs and fixed or portable socket-outlets for alternating current only, with a rated voltage greater than 50 V but not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32 A.2 Heading 8536 covers switching and connection apparatus for a voltage not exceeding 1,000 V, with other switches under 8536 50 and lamp holders, plugs and sockets under 8536 61 and 8536 69.3 See the HS code for switches and sockets guide, and the MOQ definition guide.

Example figures: 2,400 pieces split across four gang configurations and three colors leave only 200 pieces per combination, which can fall below a per-combination color run. The same 2,400 pieces in two configurations and one color hold 1,200 per combination. The example shows structure only, not a typical MOQ, price or lead time.

Why this matters for buyers and sellers

For the buyer, the MOQ decides how much cash sits in stock and whether a new finish can be tested before a larger repeat. A first order covering every gang, color and finish often fails on the smallest combination, not on the total. For the seller, the minimum protects the run: plates molded in your color and cartons printed with your brand cannot be sold to another buyer, and a short run still uses the mold change and the color run.

Two controls keep the negotiation grounded. The first is an inspection plan agreed before production: ISO 2859-1 defines acceptance quality limit as the quality level that is the worst tolerable process average when a continuing series of lots is submitted for acceptance sampling.4 Agree the AQL value and the defect classes, such as a cracked plate or a faulty shutter, before production starts. The second is one delivery term for every quotation: the Incoterms 2020 rules comprise eleven core terms, each governing delivery, risk and cost.5 Compare MOQs only on the same term.

Step-by-step: how it works

  1. Send one specification sheet to every candidate. State plate family, gang configuration, mechanism, rating, color and finish, shutter and USB needs, marking, and carton spec.

  2. State the split, not only the total. Give the quantity per gang configuration, per color and per finish. A total without a split cannot be answered with a usable MOQ.

  3. Ask for the minimums line by line. Ask for the MOQ per gang configuration, per color and finish, per mechanism and parts lot, and any separate tooling, carton, label and test minimums, and which line is binding for your split.

  4. Ask what is stocked. Record whether each plate color, mechanism and finish is a regular production item or made to order. Stocked items are where a lower minimum is most often possible.

  5. Approve samples in writing. Order a sample in your actual color, finish, gang configuration, mechanism and marking. Fit it, operate the switch, test the shutter and USB outlet if fitted, then approve or list corrections in writing.

  6. Agree inspection and delivery term before you confirm. Write the inspection level and AQL values into the purchase order, following ISO 2859-1,4 and state one Incoterm and named place for every quotation.5

How to negotiate or structure a smaller order

Negotiation works when you change the structure that creates the minimum, not when you ask for an exception. Get the result in writing, with the split it applies to.

Reduce the colors and finishes first. Colors and finishes multiply molding runs. Cutting one finish raises the quantity per remaining finish at the same total.

Share one plate family across gang configurations. Plates from the same family can share mechanisms and contacts, even when the plates differ. Ask whether the mechanism minimum can be met across gang configurations combined, in writing.

Use stocked colors, mechanisms and cartons. A standard color in regular production, with a stock mechanism and a plain carton, removes a color run. Ask for the stock list before you finalize colors, and price a branded carton apart from the plate price.

Pay tooling as a separate line. Where the floor comes from a new mold, ask for that cost apart from the unit price. The run can then be shorter, and the same tooling serves the repeat order if ownership is recorded.

Stage the order. If the supplier cannot move, place a smaller first order in fewer colors and gang configurations, with a written repeat price and MOQ for the same specification. Do not remove sample approval, function testing, or inspection to get there.

Costs, timelines and documents

What are the typical costs and timelines?

There are no typical costs or timelines a guide can state as fact, for the same reason there is no typical MOQ. Each supplier prices your plate family, gang configuration, mechanism, rating, color and finish, tooling, carton runs, testing and packing, and the delivery term you choose.5 Sampling depends on color availability, tooling and correction rounds, and bulk production on molding, finishing and parts delivery. Ask for sampling, tooling ready, parts ready, production and inspection dates as separate lines, and ask in writing which dates move if you change a color late.

Which documents are needed?

For export clearance in Bangladesh, goods cannot be loaded for export until a Bill of Export, also called a Shipping Bill, is submitted and approved. The standard export documents include an export contract or purchase order, commercial invoice, packing list, EXP form certified by an authorized dealer bank, certificate of origin, VAT registration certificate and TIN certificate.6 The order documents are the specification sheet, itemized quotation and purchase order, with the MOQ per gang configuration, color and finish on both. Keep the test report, sample approval and inspection plan in the same file.

Bangladesh-specific rules and tips

Name the standard and the edition on the specification sheet. State IEC 60669-1 for switches and IEC 60884-1 for plugs and socket-outlets, with the edition your destination market requires, and ask the supplier to confirm in writing which edition its test report covers.2 1

Confirm association and registration claims at the source. If a supplier claims a trade association membership or an export registration, confirm it with the issuing body itself. A membership claim signals a business identity, not the MOQ on offer or capacity for your order. Ask what the supplier makes itself and what it buys in.

Keep one legal name across every paper. The export set names the exporter and the foreign buyer, and the EXP form records the commodity, destination, value, terms of sale and importer details.6 The name on the trade license, quotation, proforma invoice and payment account should match.

Ask which parts are bought in for your order. Contacts, terminals, shutter springs, USB modules and some plate materials may be bought in for your specification, and a bought-in part can set both the minimum and the earliest production date. Agree the quantity per gang configuration and per color before production, and confirm the marking file before the carton print run.

Mistakes and red flags

What are the most common mistakes?

Asking for a total MOQ only. The binding minimum is usually per gang configuration, per color or per finish. An order can clear the total and still fall below the minimum for one combination.

Comparing MOQs on different specifications. A lower minimum on a stocked color, a different rating or a different term is a different offer. Compare only replies to the same specification sheet on the same Incoterm.5

Accepting a verbal exception. Record any agreed lower minimum, shared mechanism lot or paid tooling on the quotation and purchase order, with the split it applies to.

Paying tooling twice. Keep the paid tooling lines from the first purchase order, with ownership and storage terms, and attach them to the repeat enquiry.

Adding a variant after approval. A new gang configuration, color, USB socket or finish after sample approval can restart tooling, color runs and testing. Price variants as separate lines before approval.

Treating a profile or a badge as verification. A profile is a starting point for enquiries. It does not test whether a supplier can make your switch or socket, and a badge is not a guarantee of capacity, quality or delivery.7 Do not skip function testing to save time: sampling under ISO 2859-1 checks a lot against an agreed AQL.4

FAQs

What should I know first about switches and sockets?

There is no single MOQ to look up. The minimum is set per gang configuration, per color and per finish by molding runs, parts lots, tooling, and carton print runs. Switches fall under IEC 60669-1, for alternating current only, with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 63 A.1 Plugs and socket-outlets fall under IEC 60884-1, for alternating current only, with a rated voltage greater than 50 V but not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32 A.2

What are the typical costs and timelines?

There are no typical figures a buyer can rely on, because each supplier sets its price, MOQ and lead time for your specification. Plate family, gang, mechanism, rating, color, tooling, carton runs, testing and the delivery term drive the price,5 and sampling, tooling and parts delivery drive the timeline. Ask for every date and price line separately.

Which documents are needed?

The order documents are the specification sheet, itemized quotation and purchase order, with the MOQ per gang, color and finish on both. The export set is the Bill of Export, commercial invoice, packing list, EXP form certified by an authorized dealer bank, and certificate of origin, with VAT registration and TIN certificates in the standard set.6

What are the most common mistakes?

The most common mistakes are asking only for a total MOQ, comparing minimums on different specifications or terms,5 accepting a lower minimum verbally, and paying tooling twice. A badge is not a guarantee of capacity, quality or delivery.7
