Short answer

To import bed sheets from Bangladesh to the UAE, specify each sheet by centimeter dimensions, pocket depth, fiber content, weave and thread count, classify it under the indicative heading 6302, and confirm the full GCC code, the 5 percent duty on CIF value and the 5 percent VAT position with your broker before ordering. Prepare Arabic and English labels, confirm the ESMA and ECAS conformity route with the UAE importer, and approve a pre-production sample.

Key takeaways

  • Bed sheets fall under the indicative heading 6302, with printed cotton bed linen at 6302.21 and unprinted cotton bed linen at 6302.31; the UAE applies the GCC tariff structure with extended national digits, and every duty line must be confirmed with a broker.

  • The customs duty on foreign goods from non-GCC countries is 5 percent on the CIF value, and most textiles are subject to the standard 5 percent GCC Common Customs Tariff on the CIF value; confirm the free zone or mainland treatment before pricing.

  • UAE VAT is 5 percent, and a registered business accounts for import VAT through the reverse charge; the mandatory registration threshold is AED 375,000 and the voluntary threshold is AED 187,500.

  • Textile labels must be in Arabic, or in both Arabic and English, and must state fiber composition, country of origin and care instructions using ISO symbols; products must conform to ESMA standards, often with an ECAS certificate.

  • Percale uses a one-over, one-under weave at a thread count of 200 to 400 for a crisp finish, while sateen uses a one-over, three-or-four-under weave at 300 to 500 for a smooth finish; bed linen is OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 Product Class II.

A bed sheet order for the UAE is decided at three points: at the mill in Bangladesh, where the sheet is woven, dyed and finished; at Jebel Ali, where the container is declared and the free zone or mainland treatment is settled; and in the hotel or home where the sheet must carry the right label in the right language. This guide follows that order: specification, supplier, samples, delivery term, duty and VAT, and landed cost.

Settle the entry route before you fix the delivery term. Goods that stay in a free zone and goods that enter the UAE mainland are treated differently for duty and VAT, so agree the route and the label language with your UAE importer before the goods sail.

Why source bed sheets from Bangladesh

Bangladesh has an established home textile base that covers bed linen alongside towels and furnishing fabric. In 2024-25, Bangladesh Bank recorded home textile export receipts of USD 453.8 million, up 3.2 percent on the previous year, and terry towel receipts of USD 18.7 million, up 14.0 percent.1 Those figures describe banking-channel receipts.

The practical reason to source bed sheets from Bangladesh for the UAE is weaving, dyeing, printing and finishing in one supply chain, at volumes that suit hotel programs and retail ranges. A mill that controls the loom and the dye range can hold shade consistency across a color range. Shortlist mills whose current range already includes bed linen in the weave and fiber you need, and ask to see current production in that weave. For hotel supply, ask about repeat orders in the same shade: a hotel that reorders in six months needs the same white, not a near white.

Find and verify suppliers

Where do UAE buyers start the search for bed sheet suppliers in Bangladesh?

Start with a sheet specification, not with supplier names: flat or fitted sheet, set composition, size in centimeters, pocket depth, fiber content, weave, thread count, color or print, hem and elastic detail, label set in Arabic and English, and packing for hotel or retail use. Browse suppliers on Exportain, send every candidate the identical specification, and ask for the same reply format: fabric and weave assumed, finished dimensions, price inclusions, validity, and minimum per size and color. If one supplier quotes a shorter flat sheet, a shallower pocket or a different weave, it is quoting a different sheet, not a cheaper one.

For hotel orders, add the bed sizes in the property, the number of sets per bed and the par stock multiple to the specification. A retail range and a hotel program can share a mill but rarely share a specification, so do not let one quote cover both.

How do you verify a supplier before you pay?

Verification has three layers, each checked before payment: company documents, so that name, address and bank account name agree across every document; capability, shown by a finished sheet set from current production in your weave, size and color; and payment discipline, keeping payments to the company account named in the documents. On Exportain, supplier profiles carry document and photo review badges. A badge is a review of documents and photos, not a factory inspection or a guarantee, and Exportain is not a party to the goods contract. For a first UAE order, ask the supplier about its experience with Arabic labels and with the conformity documents the UAE importer will ask for.

MOQ, pricing and samples

What is the typical MOQ for bed sheets from Bangladesh?

There is no single typical minimum order quantity for bed sheets from Bangladesh. The minimum is set per sheet size and usually per color or print, because sheeting fabric is woven and dyed in batches. A hotel flat sheet in white, a retail sateen set in a printed colorway and a fitted sheet in a deep pocket size can carry different minimums. Ask how each minimum splits by size, color, print and set composition, and whether it is counted in sheets, sets, dozens or cartons.

How is the price built, and how should you compare quotes?

Fabric is usually the main cost element in a cotton sheet, followed by dyeing or printing, cutting and hemming, finishing, testing, labeling and packing. Thread count and weave drive yarn use and loom time, so two sheets of the same finished size at different thread counts or in different weaves are different products. A percale weave uses a one-over, one-under pattern for a crisp, matte finish, while a sateen weave sends each yarn over three or four yarns before going under, for a smooth finish and more drape.2 Percale sheets commonly carry a thread count of 200 to 400, and sateen sheets commonly carry 300 to 500.2 Percale sleeps cooler and suits warm rooms, while sateen suits air-conditioned rooms. Compare quotes only on the same basis: same dimensions, fiber, weave, thread count, color or print, set composition, label language, delivery term and packing.

Which samples do you need, and how do you approve them?

Work in stages, and approve in writing at each stage. A development sample shows whether the mill can match your hand feel and hold the finished size. A pre-production sample, made in the actual production fabric, weave, thread count, color or print and finish, is the sample you approve for bulk. Test the samples as the end user will use them: fit the fitted sheet on a mattress of the stated size and pocket depth, measure the flat sheet before and after washing, check shrinkage, colorfastness and pilling, and check the Arabic and English label set. For hotel sheets, wash the sample through the laundry process the hotel actually uses, and check the sheet after several washes rather than one. Approve in writing and keep one sealed counter-sample of each sheet type.

Quality control and certifications needed

What do UAE sheet sizes and set composition require you to specify?

Size names do not travel safely between markets, so order by centimeter dimensions throughout. Specify the flat sheet by finished width and length, the fitted sheet by width, length and pocket depth including any topper, and the pillowcase by its own dimensions. State the set composition in full: how many flat sheets, fitted sheets and pillowcases, and which pillowcase size belongs to which bed size. For hotel orders, state the par level and the repeat shade requirement in the same document, so a repeat order is judged against the first order's shade card. Agree the tolerance for finished dimensions in writing, and measure the pre-production sample against the tolerance, not against the catalogue size name.

What do thread count, weave and fiber checks cover?

Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads within one square inch of fabric.2 It describes density, not quality on its own, and a higher count does not always mean a better sheet.2 Set the thread count for each weave, and check it against the fabric you approved, because multi-ply yarns can inflate a count without adding quality. Fiber checks cover the composition you ordered: 100 percent cotton, a cotton and polyester blend, or another fiber, in the percentages stated on the label. That percentage matters twice in the UAE: once for the customer, and once for the label. Agree the inspection method and defect limits before production. ISO 2859-1:2026 defines a system of acceptance sampling plans for inspection by attributes, indexed by acceptance quality limit (AQL).3 Inspect in stages: an inline check during cutting and sewing, and a final random inspection on packed goods, measuring finished size, pocket depth, shade and label accuracy across cartons.

Which label rules apply to bed sheets sold in the UAE?

Settle the label set at sampling stage, with the UAE importer checking the artwork. Labels for textile products in the UAE must be in Arabic, or in both Arabic and English, and must clearly state the fiber composition, the country of origin, and care instructions using internationally recognized ISO symbols.4 Prepare the bilingual label at the mill, and check the finished label before bulk label sewing begins. Keep the size wording in centimeters, and have the Arabic wording checked by a reader who works in Arabic, not by a machine translation alone.

Which certifications and conformity checks do you actually need?

No single certificate covers every bed sheet order for the UAE. What you need follows your customer and the conformity route the UAE importer uses. Products must conform to the standards of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA), which cover safety and quality aspects including colorfastness, flammability, and the absence of harmful chemicals such as azo dyes and formaldehyde, and demonstrating conformity often requires an ECAS certificate.4 Ask the UAE importer, before production, whether an ECAS certificate or other conformity evidence is required for the sheet, which standard applies, which laboratory test reports are needed, and whether the certificate must be in hand before shipment. Do not assume a certificate held for towels, garments or another product covers bed sheets.

OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is the certification UAE sheet buyers ask about most often. Hohenstein states that the criteria and limit values depend above all on intended use, and that the more direct the skin contact, the stricter the requirements.5 Bed linen falls in Product Class II, for textiles whose surface comes into direct contact with the skin.5 A STANDARD 100 certificate is valid for 12 months and can be renewed annually.5 Check the certificate number, class and expiry date, and confirm the certified articles include the exact sheet construction and colors you ordered.

Incoterms, shipping and transit time

Which delivery term should a first UAE order use?

Under Incoterms 2020, the delivery term settles delivery, risk, cost and customs obligations. In all rules except DDP, the buyer carries out import formalities. Name the rule, the version and the named place in the contract, for example FCA Chattogram, Incoterms 2020, or CIF Jebel Ali, Incoterms 2020.

For a container shipment from Chattogram to Jebel Ali, weigh FCA against FOB at Chattogram and CIF to Jebel Ali. FCA is suitable for any mode of transport, and the seller delivers the goods to the carrier the buyer names.6 FOB is to be used only for maritime or inland waterway transport.6 FCA matches how containerized sheet shipments move. CIF adds seller-arranged carriage and minimum insurance to the destination port, but the buyer still carries out import formalities and pays duty and VAT. If you accept FOB, agree in writing who bears the risk between terminal handover and loading. Whichever term you choose, agree the free zone or mainland treatment in the contract.

How long does shipping take from Chattogram to Jebel Ali?

There is no single typical transit time for bed sheets from Bangladesh to the UAE, and this guide states none. Sea freight takes weeks rather than days, varying by sailing schedule, routing, transshipment and season. Jebel Ali is served by over 80 weekly services connecting more than 150 ports.7 Work backward from the hotel opening or retail launch date, and confirm the shipment date only after sample approval.

Import duty, taxes and documents

How are bed sheets classified for UAE duty?

Duty follows the classification of each sheet type in the tariff, not the supplier name or the product name on the invoice. The Harmonized System groups bed linen under heading 6302, and the six-digit subheadings split bed linen by whether it is printed or not, and by fiber: 6302.21 for printed bed linen of cotton, 6302.22 for printed bed linen of man-made fibers, 6302.29 for printed bed linen of other textile materials, and 6302.31, 6302.32 and 6302.39 for the same fibers unprinted.8 Treat every heading here as indicative until your broker confirms it. A printed cotton sheet and a plain cotton sheet sit on different lines. The UAE applies the GCC tariff structure with extended national digits, so the broker must confirm the full code as entered in the UAE system, not only the six-digit base.

What import duty applies in the UAE, and what must you confirm with your broker?

Confirm every duty line with your broker before you commit to a selling price. The customs duty in the UAE on foreign goods from non-GCC countries is 5 percent on the CIF value.9 Most textiles and garments are subject to the standard 5 percent GCC Common Customs Tariff, calculated on the CIF value.4 That is the standard rate described in those sources, not a promise about any single shipment: confirm the current rate for the exact code and entry date, and confirm whether the goods enter the mainland or stay in a free zone. A detailed customs declaration needs to be submitted by the importer, exporter, authorized representative or customs broker for clearance, whether the goods are exempt or not.9 Price the order on the confirmed duty line, and keep the free zone or mainland decision in the contract.

What VAT applies on import, and how is it calculated?

VAT is separate from duty. VAT in the UAE started on 1 January 2018 at a rate of 5 percent, and the standard rate applies to most supplies including imported goods.10 The Federal Tax Authority states that VAT is a transaction-based indirect tax levied at each step of the supply chain, that end consumers generally bear the VAT cost, and that registered businesses collect and account for the tax on behalf of the Authority.11 A business must register for VAT if its taxable supplies and imports exceed the mandatory threshold of AED 375,000, and may register voluntarily above AED 187,500.12 For imports, a registered business accounts for VAT through the reverse charge on its VAT return, while a non-registered importer pays VAT on entry and may not recover it.10 Confirm the VAT base, the reverse charge treatment and recoverability with your broker and accountant before you price.

What does a UAE customs entry need?

The import set is the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and the customs declaration. The commercial invoice must state the HS code for each item, the country of origin, a full description of the goods, and the unit and total value, and the certificate of origin must be authenticated by the chamber of commerce in the exporting country.4 Name each sheet type plainly on its own invoice line, with fiber content, weave, thread count, finished dimensions, quantities, unit prices and the delivery term. State printed or unprinted on the invoice, because that wording decides the classification line. Ask the UAE importer for its importer code, and whether the ECAS certificate or other conformity evidence must accompany the declaration.

Which port should the shipment use?

Jebel Ali is the usual sea entry for a container of bed sheets bound for Dubai and the wider UAE. Jebel Ali Port is described by its operator as the world's largest man-made harbour, serving as the gateway for over 80 weekly services connecting more than 150 ports.7 Agree the port, the free zone or mainland treatment, and the inland leg in one document with the forwarder and the UAE importer.

Landed cost example

A landed cost is the full cost of one sheet, ready to sell from your UAE warehouse, excluding the VAT recovery treatment. Every number below is an example figure only, not a quote. Example figures: 10,000 cotton sateen fitted sheets, CIF Jebel Ali, mainland entry, standard duty and VAT lines.

Cost element

Example figures (per sheet)

CIF value, Jebel Ali

AED 18.00

Duty at 5 percent of CIF value

AED 0.90

Port, clearance and broker fees, Jebel Ali

AED 1.10

Inland delivery to Dubai warehouse

AED 0.70

Total landed cost, excluding VAT

AED 20.70

VAT is shown separately. VAT in the UAE is charged at a standard rate of 5 percent, and a registered business accounts for import VAT through the reverse charge.10 On the example figures, VAT of AED 0.95 per sheet applies to the CIF value plus duty, as an example calculation. The total cash cost at import is AED 21.65 per sheet before any VAT recovery.

Step-by-step import checklist

  1. Write the sheet specification: flat or fitted, set composition, centimeter dimensions, pocket depth, fiber, weave, thread count, color, hem and bilingual label set.

  2. Agree the entry route with the UAE importer: port, and free zone or mainland treatment, before you agree the delivery term.

  3. Classify every sheet type from heading 6302 and confirm each full code and duty line with your broker.

  4. Confirm the VAT position with your broker and accountant: rate, base, reverse charge and recoverability.

  5. Shortlist mills whose range includes bed linen in your weave, and request quotes on the identical specification.

  6. Verify the supplier in three layers: documents, capacity, and payment discipline.

  7. Order samples in stages, wash them through the actual laundry process, and approve a pre-production sample of each sheet type.

  8. Confirm the conformity route with the UAE importer: ECAS certificate, standard, laboratory reports and timing.

  9. Confirm the order in writing: purchase order, pro forma invoice, delivery and payment terms, inspection plan, labeling and packing.

  10. Ship from Chattogram, clear customs with the confirmed code, and reconcile the actual landed cost.

What is the typical MOQ for bed sheets from Bangladesh?

There is no single typical minimum. The minimum is set per sheet size and usually per color or print. Ask how it splits by size, color, print and set composition, and whether it is counted in sheets, sets, dozens or cartons.

How long does shipping take?

Production time and transit time are separate. Sea freight from Chattogram to Jebel Ali takes weeks rather than days. Plan from the forwarder current schedule, and confirm the shipment date only after sample approval.

What import duty applies?

Confirm every duty line with your broker before you price or ship. The indicative heading is 6302, with printed cotton bed linen under 6302.21 and unprinted cotton bed linen under 6302.31.8 The customs duty in the UAE on foreign goods from non-GCC countries is 5 percent on the CIF value.9 Confirm the current rate, the full code and the free zone or mainland treatment for your entry date.

How do I verify a supplier?

Check company documents first, so that the name, address and bank account agree across the trade licence, export registration and invoices. Then check capability: weaving and dyeing route, bed linen capacity, and a finished sheet set from current production in your weave and size, with the label artwork checked. Keep payments to the company account named in the documents, and treat any profile badge as a document and photo review, not a factory inspection or a guarantee.
