Short answer

Use this checklist to vet a generators exporter in Bangladesh before you commit money: score one exporter, one model, and one site against 14 pass-or-fail criteria covering rating class, engine and alternator models, a load test record for your serial number, transient performance, site derating, destination electrical system, alternator evidence, agreeing company documents, parts and service, order terms, inspection, and an evidence file. Any item marked Fail or Not yet evidenced stays open until the exporter supplies the document.

Why this checklist matters

A generator quotation usually leads with a single large power figure, and that figure alone cannot tell you whether the set suits your duty, your site, or your load. A generator set, in the standard's language, is a reciprocating engine driving an alternating current generator, with associated controlgear, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment, and ISO 8528-1:2018 defines its application, rating, and performance classifications for land and marine use.1 Scoring every candidate against the same criteria, in the same order, compares evidence files, not brochures.

This article is a vetting tool, not a list of exporters. No exporter is named, ranked, or endorsed here. The word Verified in the title names this checklist, not a finding about any exporter, and it does not change what Exportain verification means.

Before you start

Fix the job before you contact any exporter: write one specification sheet and send the same sheet to every candidate, so replies differ in evidence, not in questions asked.

The sheet needs five lines: duty, load profile and largest load step, site altitude, peak temperature, enclosure type, destination voltage, frequency, phase, connection type, and evidence required (datasheets, a test record per serial number, a parts list, warranty terms). Score Pass, Fail, or Not yet evidenced (Open in the table). A Fail on rating class, test record, or company documents ends the shortlist case until closed in writing.

The four ISO 8528-1 classes give the duty vocabulary: emergency standby power (ESP) for backup during an outage, prime power (PRP) for unlimited hours on a variable load, limited-time running power (LTP) for a constant load up to 500 hours per year, and continuous operating power (COP) for a constant load for unlimited hours.2 Send the class name, and ask every exporter to answer in the same terms.

Print one copy per exporter, score Pass, Fail, or Open, note document and date beside every Pass, and keep the copies as your evidence file.

Diagram: six checklist groups, from rating class and models to parts, terms and evidence file
The six checklist groups, from rating class and models to parts, terms, and evidence file.Exportain
  1. Rating class, kW, kVA, power factor, exact model. Quotation and datasheet state the same class (ESP, PRP, LTP, or COP) for the exact model, on one line. A headline figure with no class is Open.

  2. Engine model named. The datasheet engine model matches the quotation. A brand name without a model is Open.

  3. Alternator model named. The datasheet alternator model matches the quotation, with frame size where given. A brand name without a model is Open.

  4. Load test record per serial number. One record per serial number: load steps, voltage, frequency, current, power at each step, alarms and shutdowns tested, and class tested at. A record for another set is Fail.

  5. Transient performance at your largest load step. The class the set meets at that step, for load acceptance and rejection, with the step stated. ISO 8528-5 defines classes G1 to G4, with tighter limits on frequency and voltage deviation and recovery time as the class rises.2 Steady-load figures alone are Open.

  6. Site derating in writing. Derated output at your altitude, temperature, and enclosure type. Reference conditions: 25 degrees Celsius, 100 kilopascals, 30 percent relative humidity; output falls away from them.2 A nameplate figure alone is Open.

  7. Destination system confirmed. Voltage, frequency, phase, connection, and earthing, confirmed in writing. For Bangladesh, mains voltage is 230 volts and frequency is 50 hertz.3 Elsewhere, confirm the same five items.

  8. Alternator evidence under IEC 60034-1. Rating and performance basis stated against IEC 60034-1, with each efficiency figure marked typical or guaranteed at stated load points.4 No basis or load point means Open.

  9. Company documents agreeing. Company name, address, and bank account name agreeing across trade licence, Export Registration Certificate (ERC), quotation, and invoice. A differing bank name is Fail until explained in documents.

  10. Exportain badges read as written. You have opened the profile checklist and noted verified checks and badge meanings. Exportain verification is a staff review of documents and photos, not a factory visit or government-database check, and a badge guarantees neither capacity, quality, nor delivery.5 Missing means unapproved, not failed.

  11. Parts, service, manuals in the order. Parts list by part number, a service contact and response route, warranty terms naming the item 1 class, and manuals and wiring diagrams shipping with the set. A brochure promise is Open.

  12. Quantity counting and quotation fields stated. How quantity is counted, plus unit price, minimum order quantity, lead time, Incoterm, payment terms, validity. On Exportain each quotation states those fields, and a minimum can be counted per order, style, colour, or value.6 No counting basis means Open.

  13. Inspection and shipment papers agreed first. Inspection scope, inspector or inspection route, documents shipping with the set, and when the item 4 record is delivered, agreed in writing before payment terms are accepted. Later terms are harder to enforce.

  14. One dated file per exporter. This scored checklist, specification sheet, every datasheet, record, and document relied on, each dated, plus the decision. Re-score on any model, class, or bank-detail change.

Common failures and how to fix them

Headline figure, no rating class. Two quotations look comparable, but one figure is standby and the other prime. Return both with your duty class named and ask for kW, kVA, and power factor restated. Score Fail until that line arrives.

Brand name instead of a model. Engine or alternator described by brand only, so a later substitution inside the same brand would pass unnoticed. Require the model datasheet, check both models, and require written approval for any change.

Test record for another set. The paper supplied is a model type test, or a record for another serial number, presented as proof for your set. Put one record per serial number in the order terms, with steps, ratings, and failed steps shown, delivered with the shipping papers.

Nameplate figure at a real site. The set is sized from its reference-condition figure while the site is high, hot, or enclosed, so delivered output falls short. Send altitude, peak temperature, and enclosure type with the first enquiry, and score item 6 only on derated output.

Payee not matching the company. Bank account name differs from the registered company name, and payment is pressed ahead on a message assurance. Stop at item 9, ask for documents explaining the difference, and pay only into the agreed business account.

Warranty for a different duty. Warranty conditions assume a class different from item 1, so your actual duty falls outside it. Check the warranty class against your class before signing, and score item 11 on agreement.

How Exportain helps

Exportain is a B2B marketplace for sourcing from Bangladesh, and its structure fits this checklist directly. Browse the supplier directory, open each profile, and read its trust checklist before shortlisting, under the limits in item 10.5 Then put the checklist into your request for quotation: rating class, engine and alternator models, test record per serial number, site conditions, destination system, parts list, and warranty terms, so replies arrive in comparable form. For quantity, the guide to MOQ in the supply chain explains how a minimum quantity is counted, the background for item 12.

Use badges as a starting filter, not a conclusion, and keep the whole exchange in the quotation and message thread so agreed terms are recorded. Exportain is not a party to your goods contract, and platform verification does not replace items 1 to 9 or 11 to 14: it shortens the company-documents work, while technical evidence still has to be supplied and checked by you.

FAQs

When should this checklist be used?

Before you shortlist. Score every candidate on the same sheet, and re-score any exporter whose model, class, or bank details change before signing. After an order, it can only record gaps already hard to close.

Who should complete it?

The buyer, or a person acting for the buyer who can read datasheets. The exporter supplies documents but does not score its own checklist: the party who will live with the set, or pay for it, marks Pass, Fail, or Open.

What are the most common failures?

No rating class, no model, a test record for another set, a nameplate figure at a hot or high site, a mismatched payee, and a warranty for another duty. Each is a document failure first, visible before money moves.

Can a third party do it?

Yes, for genuinely third-party work: an independent inspector can check a set against the order, and an adviser can read datasheets against your specification. The decision stays with you, because a third party cannot agree your duty class, site conditions, or payment terms for you, and any report belongs in the item 14 file.
