Bovine meat or beef is the most water-thirsty food product. It takes about 15,415 litres of water to produce one kg of bovine meat.
Nuts or dry fruits like pistachios, almonds etc. require 9,063 litres of water to produce one kg of the product.
Sheep and goat meat require about 8,763 litres of water to produce one kg of the product.
Pig meat is also a water-thirsty food product. It requires about 5,988 litres of water to produce one kg of pork.
It requires approximately 4,300 litres of water to produce one kg of chicken meat.
It requires about 3,265 litres of water to produce one kg of eggs.
