Liverpool has reportedly received an initial offer for Sadio Mane from Bayern Munich, but the club believes Der FCB can do better.
Bayern tipped to be the best bet to be the next stop of the 30-year-old forward, allegedly dangled an opening bid of £21 million ($26.3 million) guaranteed pus £4 million ($5 million) in add-ons for the services of Mane.
According to Paul Joyce of the Times, this pitch was rejected by EFL Cup and FA Cup champions.
Furthermore, it was added that one of the potential add-ons would be completed if Bayern Munich won the UEFA Champions League.
The proposal was a far cry from what the Reds were looking for.
According to SI.com, Liverpool was looking for numbers around the £42.5 million ($53.1 million) mark.
Aside from the money involved, the Reds want a suitable replacement for the Senegalese before agreeing to any potential sale.
The Reds are aware that they can get more from a potential deal for Mane. The fact that he won every trophy possible supports that belief.
Hence, all Der FCB can do now is to go back to the drawing board and try to come up with an improved and better offer for Mane.
Unless Bayern can come up with a better and acceptable offer for Mane, the likely scenario is for the Senegal player to run out of his current deal and leave on a free transfer next season.
For now, he continues to send cryptic messages about where he could end up.
Ahead of his country’s South Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Mane added fuel to the fire with the comments he made regarding his future.
“Isn’t it between 60 to 70% of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want. We will see soon! The future will tell us,” Mane stated via the Echo.
However, he would later explain his statement, claiming he was just joking around.
“I spoke yesterday while joking with a bit of humor and it was everywhere. I think we’ll stop there. Liverpool is a club I respect a lot. The fans adopted me since day one. Regarding the future, we’ll see,” the Senegalese forward shared.
